LightForce Braces in Rocky Point, NY
CUSTOM BUILT FOR YOUR SMILE
What are LightForce Braces?
LightForce is a fully customized bracket system that uses 3D printing technology to create braces tailored to the exact shape and position of each individual tooth. Unlike traditional brackets that come in standard sizes and get adjusted to fit, every LightForce bracket is designed from scratch based on a digital scan of your smile.
The result is a more precise fit, more efficient tooth movement, and in many cases, a shorter overall treatment time. Dr. Miller is one of a select number of orthodontists on Long Island certified to offer LightForce, and it’s become one of the most requested treatment options in our Rocky Point office.
How LightForce Braces Work
LightForce starts with a detailed 3D scan of your teeth. That scan is used to digitally design a bracket for each individual tooth, accounting for its size, shape, angle, and the exact direction it needs to move. The brackets are then 3D-printed from a ceramic polycrystalline material and shipped to our office ready to place.
Because each bracket is custom-designed for its specific tooth, Dr. Miller can program the treatment goals directly into the hardware. This means fewer manual adjustments, more predictable movement, and less overall chair time compared to off-the-shelf bracket systems.
Appointments are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks. Since the brackets are doing more of the precision work upfront, adjustments tend to be quicker and less frequent than with traditional braces. Most patients finish treatment in less time than they would with a conventional system.
Why Patients Still Choose LightForce
LightForce takes the guesswork out of bracket placement. With traditional braces, the orthodontist manually positions standardized brackets and then compensates with wire bending and adjustments over time. LightForce flips that process by designing the precision into each bracket from the start, so your teeth start moving in the right direction from day one.
Every bracket is 3D-printed for your individual tooth
Can reduce treatment time by up to 40%
Precision-built brackets mean less wire bending
Custom fit means less irritation and better contact
Who is a Good Candidate for LightForce Braces?
LightForce works for patients of all ages and is effective across a wide range of orthodontic cases, from mild crowding to complex bite corrections. Because every bracket is designed specifically for the patient, the system adapts to the case rather than the other way around.
LightForce is an especially strong option for patients who want the reliability of braces but also value efficiency. If minimizing treatment time and the number of adjustment visits matters to you, this is worth considering.
Not every orthodontist offers LightForce since it requires specialized training and a digital workflow. Dr. Miller is certified in the system and has used it to treat a wide range of cases at our Rocky Point office. During your consultation, he’ll let you know whether LightForce is the best fit for your teeth or if another option would serve you better.

Questions? We've got answers
Answers to the questions we hear most from new patients, from cost and comfort to what treatment is really like.
What makes LightForce different from regular braces?
Traditional braces use standardized brackets that are manually positioned and adjusted over time. LightForce brackets are 3D-printed to fit each individual tooth, with the treatment goals built directly into the hardware. This means more precise movement from the start and often a shorter overall treatment time.
How much faster is LightForce compared to traditional braces?
Results vary by case, but LightForce can reduce treatment time by up to 40% compared to conventional bracket systems. The efficiency comes from the custom design of each bracket, which reduces the need for manual adjustments and compensations throughout treatment.
Are LightForce brackets visible?
LightForce brackets are made from a tooth-colored ceramic material, so they're more discreet than metal. They're not invisible like clear aligners, but they blend in well and are significantly less noticeable than traditional stainless steel brackets.
Does LightForce cost more than regular braces?
LightForce can cost slightly more due to the custom fabrication process. However, the reduced number of appointments and shorter treatment time can offset the difference. We work with most insurance plans and offer flexible payment options. Your consultation includes a full cost breakdown.
Can LightForce handle complex cases?
Yes. Because every bracket is custom-designed for the specific movement each tooth needs to make, LightForce handles complex cases with a level of precision that standard brackets can't match. Dr. Miller has used it for everything from mild crowding to significant bite corrections.
How many orthodontists offer LightForce?
Not many. LightForce requires specialized certification and a fully digital workflow, so it's only available at select practices. Dr. Miller is one of a limited number of orthodontists on Long Island trained and certified to offer the system.
